The Katsina State Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development Professor Ahmed Muhammad Bakori has expressed appreciation to Himmah Youth Development Association for seeking collaboration with the state government in an attempt to boost the morale of the youth on Agricultural activities for the development of the state.
The Commissioner made this known when he received officials of the National body of the Association led by its National President Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf on Thursday the 29th of August 2024 in his office.
Professor Ahmed Bakori said it became necessary for Associations to initiate such collaborative efforts with government at all levels to enhance job opportunities for youth particularly in agriculture.
The Commissioner spoke extensively on the achievements so far recorded by Dikko administration on Agricultural activities and other plans for future development of the sector across the state.
According to him, assorted fertilizer for wet-season farming had been distributed to farmers within the needed period, irrigational equipments such as Solar Panels alongside Solar Powered Watering Machines, improved seeds of Cabbage, Onion, Pepper, Carrots among others have been distributed to various Clusters across the 34 LGAs of the state.
He added that last time 204 Solar Water Pumps have been distributed, but according to him, this time around the state government is planning to distribute about 4,000 to expand the scheme.
He however said that the state government is currently planning to widening the irrigational activities across the state
by doubling the number of irrigation farmers planned to be empowered so as to augment the cereal production planned by the federal government.
On the request of the Association for the state government to include farmers it already captured in its upcoming project, the Commissioner assured that since the Association has Coordinators in each of the 34 LGAs things will be easier for the inclusion.
The Commissioner therefore registered his confidence in the affairs of the Association.
Earlier, the National President of Himmah Youth Development Association Alhaji Ahmad Yusuf said they were in Katsina to seek for collaboration with the state government through the Ministry to contribute its quater in areas of agricultural development and boost employment opportunities amongst youth.
Ahmad Yusuf stated that the Association planned to embark on irrigational activities, especially boosting Tomato production.
While appreciating the good reception given to them by the Ministry, the National President also seek for inclusion of members of the association in the planned empowerment of irrigation farmers across the LGAs who were already captured by the Local Coordinators of the association.
