Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Cameroon’s Far North region, left homeless after two fires ravaged makeshift camps in Kolofata, have received critical humanitarian assistance to address their urgent needs.
The intervention brought together key humanitarian and institutional actors, including the World Food Programme (WFP), the organization Memorial Cameroon, and the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Turkey in Cameroon, represented by Volkan Öskiper.
The mission falls within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Turkey and Cameroon, focused on supporting populations affected by emergencies.
Hundreds of affected households mostly women and children received food supplies and essential items to help mitigate the immediate impact of their losses and support them during the initial recovery phase. The beneficiaries had been rendered homeless when fires swept through two IDP camps on February 7, forcing them to sleep in the open without shelter or food.
Beyond the distribution of aid, the humanitarian mission provided an opportunity for technical exchanges with local communities and partners on the ground. These discussions aimed to improve coordination of humanitarian responses and identify priority needs for complementary actions in the Far North region.
This joint effort underscores the commitment of all partners to strengthening international cooperation in the service of humanitarian assistance and the protection of vulnerable populations.
