Tension gripped Ekpoma, Edo State, as angry youths flooded the streets to protest the frightening surge in kidnappings, venting their fury by tearing down campaign billboards of the All Progressives Congress.
Chanting solidarity songs and waving placards, the protesters accused authorities of failing to protect lives and property, warning that fear has now replaced peace in the university town and surrounding communities.
The youths said residents can no longer sleep with both eyes closed, as kidnappings have become rampant, disrupting daily life and crippling local businesses.
“Our safety comes first,” some protesters shouted, as they demanded urgent and decisive action to curb the growing insecurity.
The protest, though largely peaceful, sent a strong message of public anger and frustration—highlighting mounting pressure on leaders to confront the kidnapping menace before it spirals further out of control.
