Kidnappers Of Police DPO In Edo Demand N50m Ransom
Abductors of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Fugar Division in Etsako Central Local Government Area identified as Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ibrahim Aliyu Ishaq are reportedly demanding N50 million ransom in order to set him free.
The Police officer was said to have been kidnapped on Friday evening near Ise River, along the old Auchi–Ekperi-Agenebode road, while travelling in the company of his orderly on Friday evening.
According to a Police insider, the kidnappers struck as CSP Ishaq was coming from Agenebode to Fugar, passing through Ekperi Road.
Volunteering further information on condition of anonymity, the Police source said; “He was kidnapped but his orderly escaped and the kidnappers have made contact this (Saturday) morning and they are demanding N50m.”
Efforts at getting comments from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Edo State on the incident that took place around 6.30 pm on Friday proved unsuccessful as calls and text messages sent to him did not receive any reply.
However, competent sources disclosed that clearly disturbed by the unfortunate development where one of his highly-rated officers was ferried away by the kidnappers unchallenged, the Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu has ordered that men of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime unit; as well as the Tactical and Strike teams of the state Police Command be deployed immediately to the area to ensure the DPO is rescued unhurt.
Reports said the community members where the incident happened are currently living in fear with some of them expressing open concerns about their safety given the manner in which the senior Police officer was so easily abducted by the criminal elements.
Before his deployment to Edo State some years back, CSP Ishaq reportedly served as DPO in Dakota Police Division in Kano State.
