The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has confirmed the death of Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, a former chairman of its Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children in Kubwa, Abuja.

According to reports, gunmen invaded the doctor’s residence near the Kubwa–Kaduna Road last week, abducting him and his three children. His body was later found dumped by the roadside, while the children remain missing.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the NVMA expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, describing Dr. Ogbu as a dedicated professional whose death is a huge loss to the veterinary community and the nation at large.

The association urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted children and bring the perpetrators to justice.

While several reports have confirmed the killing, the FCT Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Attempts by journalists to get a response from the police spokesperson were unsuccessful as of press time.

Sources close to the family said the kidnappers had contacted them earlier to demand a ransom before communication was abruptly cut off. The exact circumstances surrounding Dr. Ogbu’s death remain unclear.

A Facebook post by a colleague, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, also confirmed the doctor’s demise, expressing grief over the loss and calling for stronger action against rising cases of kidnapping in the nation’s capital.

The tragic incident has reignited public concern about worsening insecurity in the FCT and the slow response of law enforcement agencies to kidnapping cases.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the whereabouts of the three abducted children remain unknown.
