The Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has strongly denied recent media claims that the state failed to access N1.39 billion in Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) funds due to unpaid counterpart funding.
Prof. Sulaiman Khalid, the Executive Chairman of Kebbi SUBEB, clarified that Governor Nasir Idris had already approved and ensured the payment of the required counterpart fund. This action enabled the state to fully access the UBEC funds, contrary to reports that lumped Kebbi with other Northwest states struggling to secure the federal allocation.
“The report suggesting that Kebbi missed out on accessing these crucial funds is simply inaccurate,” Khalid stated. “On May 3, 2024, we deposited the required N1.39 billion counterpart fund, and UBEC promptly matched it in July. We now have the full sum available for educational projects across the state.”
Kebbi SUBEB emphasized that the funds will be utilized transparently, inviting civil society and community groups to monitor the projects’ implementation. The board reaffirmed its commitment to improving education for all children in Kebbi State, underlining that “Education for All is the Responsibility of All.”
