Governor Nasir Idris has stepped up efforts to end erratic electricity in Kebbi State, signing a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to guarantee steady power supply and drive industrial growth.
The move, announced in Birnin Kebbi by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, signals a major push to energize the state’s economy and attract investment.
According to the statement, Governor Idris has consistently engaged energy experts and committed substantial resources toward strengthening electricity infrastructure since assuming office.
His latest intervention comes as he participates in an international energy summit in London, where global stakeholders are charting new pathways for energy investment and regional development.
At the summit, discussions are centred on unlocking the vast potential within the KEDCO franchise, with a focus on boosting generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as tackling long-standing challenges in energy access.
Key deliberations also include the implementation of the Electricity Act 2023, a reform designed to decentralize Nigeria’s power sector.
Governor Idris is expected to hold high-level consultations with investors on the sidelines, seeking partnerships that will strengthen Kebbi’s electricity backbone and support its industrialisation drive.
The administration has already rolled out multiple interventions, including the procurement of a 15MVA transformer worth over ₦650 million, monthly financial support to KEDCO, and the acquisition of dozens of transformers to expand supply coverage.
With the new MoU in place, the Kebbi government says it is confident of delivering a more stable and sustainable power supply to homes and businesses—laying the foundation for economic transformation in the state.
