The Kebbi State House of Assembly has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), over what it described as “baseless and mischievous” allegations against the Kebbi State Government.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Usman Zuru (Lifiddan Zuru), made the call at a press briefing held on Saturday at the Assembly Complex in Birnin Kebbi. He urged the Inspector General of Police, the Commander-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to take immediate action.
Malami had in a recent petition accused the Kebbi State Government of importing political thugs, hiring mercenaries, and engaging in clandestine arms deals—claims the Assembly has dismissed as deliberate falsehoods aimed at tarnishing the state’s reputation.
“As Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, on behalf of my respected colleagues, it is our duty and responsibility to respond with clarity, firmness, and truth to this grave allegation,” Zuru declared. “Kebbi State is a land of peace, dignity, and law-abiding citizens. Over the years, we have earned a reputation as one of the most stable and peaceful states in the country. Any attempt to taint that record with falsehoods by wani dan hassada is an attack not only on the government but on the people of Kebbi State.”
He further described Malami’s petition as an orchestrated attempt to sow fear, distract the government from its developmental agenda, and stir unnecessary tension in the state.
“The allegations are baseless, unfounded, and mischievous,” he said. “Kebbi State Government has no record—nor any agenda—of importing political thugs or mercenaries. Our politics has always been rooted in dialogue, persuasion, and respect.”
The Speaker assured citizens that the Assembly remains united in defending the peace and integrity of the state, while calling on security agencies to treat Malami’s petition as a criminal attempt to incite unrest.
