Against the backdrop of soaring poverty and its ripple effects on insecurity, illiteracy, and drug abuse, the Katsina Consultative Forum (KCF) has convened its 2024 Annual Dialogue, themed “Strategiest for Poverty Eradication and Drive to Sustainable Development in Katsina State.”
The dialogue, which brought together intellectuals, policymakers, professionals, and community stakeholders, sought to tackle the alarming poverty rate in Katsina State, where 74.1% of the population lives in deprivation according to the 2020 National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report. Participants explored actionable solutions to foster growth and uplift vulnerable communities.
Holistic Approach to Poverty and Insecurity
Recognizing the multifaceted nature of poverty, the KCF emphasized collaborative action involving government, private sector players, and non-governmental organizations. Key discussions revolved around economic empowerment, education reforms, and community-led solutions to address insecurity and drug abuse.
Annual Activities Showcase Commitment
The KCF highlighted its 2024 initiatives aimed at addressing youth challenges, particularly drug and substance abuse:
1. Interactive sessions and radio campaigns on Alfijir FM and Radio Nigeria Kaduna.
2. Grassroots town hall meetings with over 160 community leaders to educate youths.
3. Sponsorship of an Anti-Drug Week in partnership with local networks.
4. Plans for a modern rehabilitation center nearing completion to aid reintegration of drug addicts.
Looking Ahead: The Communiqué of Change
A comprehensive communiqué summarizing the dialogue’s recommendations is set to guide stakeholders in crafting long-term solutions. This roadmap aims to reposition Katsina State as a model for sustainable development in Northern Nigeria.
As KCF Chairperson noted, “Our efforts are a call to action for every Katsina citizen. Together, we can create a future where poverty, insecurity, and drug abuse are stories of the past.”
