Arewa Tech Fiesta Highlights Path to Investor Collaboration – Radda
Katsina State is setting its sights on becoming the leading innovation hub in Northern Nigeria by 2030, according to Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda. Speaking during a fireside chat at the Arewa Tech Fiesta held in Katsina, the Governor outlined a comprehensive strategy to integrate technology into governance and development across the state.
During his address, Governor Radda spotlighted the achievements of Sulo Africa—a homegrown tech firm with humble beginnings that has grown into a multi-billion naira enterprise. He described the company as a model for the type of innovation Katsina hopes to nurture.
“There was a time they started with only a few people. Today, that same company can generate billions annually,” the Governor said, emphasizing the transformative potential of local entrepreneurship.
Governor Radda also shared key steps taken by his administration to build a data-driven government. “From the start, we understood the value of accurate data. That’s why we conducted baseline surveys on our health centers, schools, farmers, and other sectors. Reliable data is essential for effective planning and resource allocation,” he explained.
The Governor stressed the vast economic possibilities that come with accurate information management. “With dependable data, the sky’s the limit—not just for Katsina, but for the entire North and Nigeria as a whole.”
Explaining the rationale behind hosting the Arewa Tech Fiesta in Katsina, Radda said the event aims to spotlight the state’s innovation potential and attract investment partnerships. “We’re sending a message to investors and tech entrepreneurs: Katsina is open for innovation and ready to collaborate,” he said.
Governor Radda also mentioned the Katsina State Community Development initiative, which gives citizens a more active role in governance through community-based committees. These committees are equipped with laptops and report directly to the Governor’s office, creating a real-time feedback loop.
In healthcare, Katsina has introduced e-health systems in major hospitals to streamline medical records and eliminate paper files. Additionally, the state is deploying fiber optic connections across all 34 local government areas to enable digital access in rural communities.
To further bolster innovation, Governor Radda confirmed plans to establish a state-of-the-art tech village—a space where young innovators can collaborate and grow. He also cited the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA) as a crucial support platform for youth-led startups and creative ideas.
On security, the Governor revealed that over ₦5 billion has been invested in surveillance technology capable of monitoring a 30-kilometer radius, reinforcing the administration’s belief that technology is central to combating insecurity and managing ungoverned spaces.
The state has also launched a Bureau of Statistics currently conducting a poverty index survey, aimed at crafting tailored economic policies.
Wrapping up the session, Governor Radda voiced optimism about the state’s future: “We are laying a strong foundation, changing systems and mindsets. With continuity and commitment, Katsina will shine as a beacon of innovation and opportunity by 2030.”
The Arewa Tech Fiesta, held in Katsina under Governor Radda’s leadership, continues to serve as a launchpad for advancing tech-based development and attracting meaningful investment into Northern Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.
