KATSINA SHOCKER: POLICE NAB ONE IN MURDER OF MOTHER, BABY — MANHUNT ON FOR ACCOMPLICE

Borno State Government

The quiet community of Sheme village in Faskari Local Government Area was thrown into deep mourning after the Katsina State Police Command confirmed the horrific killing of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby—an act the authorities have described as one of the most shocking in recent times.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command has arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Sahabi Rabi’u, in connection with the tragic incident. The suspect, now in custody, reportedly confessed during interrogation and disclosed that he conspired with an accomplice—currently on the run—to lure the victims to the outskirts of Sheme village.

Police investigations revealed that a paternity dispute between the suspects and the victim escalated into a fatal plot. The suspects allegedly took the victims to a remote area, where the mother and her baby were killed. Their remains were later recovered after being burnt and disposed of in a nearby well, sparking outrage across the state.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the killing in the strongest terms, describing it as “barbaric and inhumane.” He assured the public that the command is fully committed to ensuring justice, stressing that no stone will be left unturned as detectives intensify efforts to track down the fleeing accomplice.

“This act is unacceptable and deeply troubling. We will pursue the investigation to its logical conclusion and ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law,” CP Shehu vowed.

The command is urging residents to provide any useful information that could support the ongoing investigation, assuring that all details shared will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

As the manhunt continues, the state grapples with the emotional weight of a crime that has shaken its conscience. Further updates, according to the police, will be communicated as investigations progress.
