In a major security breakthrough, the Katsina State Police Command has dismantled a criminal syndicate specializing in house trespass and theft, which had been terrorizing residents of Kwado, Kambarawa, and areas around the NYSC Orientation Camp.

The sting operation, carried out following a tipoff from a vigilant Good Samaritan, led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of several stolen household items, including electronics and a syndicate-operated tricycle.

Acting on the intelligence received on June 13, 2025, at exactly 10:16pm, operatives from GRA Police Division swiftly moved into action around the Kado area. Their prompt response led to the arrest of:

  • Lawal Hamza, alias Honourable, 28, of Saulawa Quarters
  • Nafi’u Sanusi, 33, of GRA, Katsina

Items recovered from the suspects included:

  • A tricycle used in their operations
  • A 55-inch LG plasma TV
  • A mattress
  • A refrigerator
  • A bunch of house keys

In a twist, a victim, Muhammad Lawal of Saulawa, stepped forward to identify the stolen items, aiding the ongoing investigation. The suspects have confessed to the crimes and implicated Abdulrahman Sama’ila, who is currently on the run. Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fugitive.

Further investigation linked the group to multiple burglaries reported on June 8 and 15, 2025, by Abubakar Musa and Abdulaziz Usman from Behind NYSC Camp and Sabon Titin Kwado, respectively. Items stolen from their homes included TVs, inverters, trolleys, gas cylinders, women’s wrappers, laces, and handbags.

In connection to these incidents, police arrested Binta Ibrahim, 37, of Sabuwar Unguwa, Kofar Kaura Quarters, found in possession of some of the stolen goods. During interrogation, she admitted receiving the items from Honourable, confirming his role as the syndicate’s ringleader.

The Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, reaffirmed its resolve to eradicate all forms of criminality in the state. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts continue to recover all stolen items and bring remaining accomplices to justice.
