The Katsina State Police Command has firmly refuted reports circulating on social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter), alleging that bandits have taken control of Kankara Local Government Area.

In a press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the police described the report as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to stir panic among residents of the state.

“There is no truth whatsoever in the claims that Kankara LGA has been overtaken by bandits. The area remains peaceful, and normal activities are ongoing,” the statement said.

The Command reassured residents that the security situation in Kankara and across the state is under control. It also emphasized that joint security operations involving other law enforcement agencies are actively ongoing to maintain peace and safeguard lives and property.

The statement further noted that the Command has adopted several proactive strategies in tackling criminal activities such as banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling—efforts which have continued to yield tangible results.

Citizens were advised to disregard the unfounded reports and avoid spreading unverified claims that may cause unnecessary tension. The Command also cautioned social media users against reckless dissemination of false information.

“We urge members of the public to depend solely on credible sources for updates regarding security matters. Reckless sharing of fake news does more harm than good,” the police spokesperson added.

The police also disclosed that an investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the misleading claims, with a promise to take appropriate legal action against those behind the misinformation campaign.

“The Katsina State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents across the state,” the statement concluded.
