The Katsina State Police Command yesterday joined the nationwide commemoration of 70 years of women in the Nigeria Police Force, celebrating the courage, sacrifice, and transformational impact of female officers who have served the nation with distinction.
As part of the activities marking the milestone, a delegation of serving women officers embarked on honour visits to retired female personnel across the state—an emotional and symbolic gesture aimed at acknowledging their legacy and strengthening mentorship ties within the Force.
During the visits, the retirees engaged the officers in interactive dialogue sessions, sharing personal experiences, professional challenges, and strategic advice that will inform future gender-responsive policing. Many recounted how the early years of women’s enlistment in the Force were marked by limited roles and societal resistance, yet they persevered and paved the way for today’s generation of female officers occupying critical positions.
Deeply moved by the recognition, the retired officers expressed heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the Command and the Nigeria Police Force at large for remembering their service. They encouraged serving women officers to uphold the values of discipline, commitment, and honour, urging them to continue lifting the flag of the NPF with pride and professionalism.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, MNIM, described the event as a celebration of “trailblazers whose resilience reshaped policing history in Nigeria.” He commended both retired and serving officers for their exceptional contributions and called on all personnel to remain steadfast in upholding professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty.
CP Shehu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive workplace where officers—regardless of gender—can thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to community safety.
The celebration, he noted, is not only a tribute to the past but a reminder of the critical role women continue to play in modern policing, particularly in community relations, intelligence gathering, and conflict resolution.
