KATSINA NUJ ASSURES TO WORK WITH POLICE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BANDITRY.

The Chairman of Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Tukur Dan Ali has assured the state police command of continued cooperation by journalist in the fight against armed banditry and other forms of criminality in the state.
Dan Ali was speaking when he led members of the state executive council of the union on a familiarization visit to the newly deployed Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Idris Dabban at the state command headquarters in katsina.
He said the NUJ has built a cordial working relationship with the command which assists ongoing efforts to curb crime and criminality.
The NUJ chairman who said he was impressed with the working experience of the newly deployed CP expressed confidence that he would bring it to bear in the efforts to curb armed banditry and kidnapping in the state.
In his response, CP Idris Dabban stressed the need for journalists to always portray the country in good light and use their media to publicize the efforts of security agencies in the fight against insurgency, kidnaping and armed banditry.
He regretted that negative media reports that tend to glorify the activities of armed bandits and insurgents could embolden them to sustain the onslaught against communities in parts of the country.
CP Dabban observed that negative media reports that exaggerate the level of insecurity in the country could also scare away prospective investors and tourists which could affect the country’s economy.
He assured the NUJ and other journalists in the state of continued cooperation from the command discharge of their duties, particularly the reportage of events that pertain to security.
