In a bold step to tackle the rising cases of job racketeering and financial fraud, the Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has teamed up with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to train its personnel on preventive measures and ethical conduct.
The three-day workshop, which kicked off on Thursday, December 5, at the NSCDC Command Headquarters, aims to equip officers with the knowledge to curb corrupt practices within and beyond the Corps.
In his opening remarks, Commandant Jamilu Abdu Indabawa reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC’s Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, to restoring public confidence in the Corps. “This training is part of our efforts to sanitize the system and uphold the integrity of the NSCDC. I urge all participants to pay close attention and share their insights with colleagues across the state,” Indabawa stated.
The Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit, ACC Umar Dandare, highlighted the program’s goal: fostering awareness about the legal implications of job racketeering and financial fraud, while ensuring that officers strictly adhere to operational standards.
ICPC Resident Commissioner, Mr. Mahadi Muhammad Lawal, also addressed the gathering, stressing the urgency of combating fraudulent activities. “Continuous enlightenment is critical as financial crimes become increasingly sophisticated. We must remain vigilant and proactive,” he said.
Day one concluded with interactive sessions where participants explored real-life scenarios, exchanged ideas, and sought clarifications.
In a related development, Commandant Indabawa held a strategic meeting with key officers to reinforce the Corps’ commitment to discipline, professionalism, and adherence to the NSCDC’s code of conduct. He conveyed a stern warning from the Commandant General against actions that could tarnish the organization’s reputation.
The training will continue until December 7, 2024, with participants drawn from various departments, units, area commands, and divisional offices.
