The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has achieved a major success in its fight against vandalism, as a 60-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing high-tension electric cables in Funtua Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Hassan Abubakar from Lasanawa Village in Maska Ward, Funtua LGA, was apprehended by the special Anti-Vandal patrol team attached to the Funtua Division of the NSCDC. Abubakar is accused of stealing components belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, which power critical infrastructure in the state.
The suspect was reportedly caught after climbing electric poles in Lasanawa Village on August 28, 2024, and cutting down high-tension electric wires. He later packed the stolen materials into bags and attempted to sell them to scrap dealers in Funtua town. However, according to the investigation, the dealers refused to buy the stolen items, which led to his eventual arrest.
Among the items recovered from Abubakar were:

2. Channel iron
3. Pension clamps
4. Straps
5. Isolator handle
6. Scattered disc insulators
7. Adapter sockets
8. Bolt and nuts
9. J-hooks
10. Spindles
11. Electric aluminum conductors
12. A spanner (Ganjer)
13. Pinches
14. Iron rods
Abubakar has confessed to the crime and is now in custody, awaiting prosecution. The case has been transferred to the State Command Headquarters for further investigation.
Commandant Jamilu A. Indabawa, the dynamic leader of the NSCDC in Katsina, praised the quick response of the Anti-Vandal patrol team, emphasizing that the Command is resolute in its fight against vandals and economic saboteurs in the state.
He urged the public to remain law-abiding and to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, stressing that the success of law enforcement depends on the cooperation of the community. “We thank the people of Katsina State for their continuous support and timely intelligence. Together, we will ensure a secure and peaceful environment,” Commandant Indabawa stated.
The suspect will be charged to court once the investigation is completed, and the Command assured the public that it will continue its efforts to protect vital infrastructure in Katsina.
The NSCDC also appealed to the public to provide actionable intelligence to help crack down on criminal activities that disrupt essential services such as electricity.
With this latest arrest, the Katsina NSCDC has once again demonstrated its dedication to maintaining law and order and securing the welfare of residents in the state.
