The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted an attempt to divert insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) meant for households in Matazu Local Government Area.
A surveillance team of the Command stopped a Ford pickup truck with registration number BDG 212 YE, loaded with 35 bags containing 50 mosquito nets each, while it was being transported out of Matazu towards Kano State.
According to the NSCDC, the driver of the vehicle was apprehended and taken to the Command’s headquarters for interrogation. During questioning, he claimed he was hired from Charanchi market to convey goods from Matazu to Kano, and was unaware of the nature of the items loaded into his truck. Four other suspects linked to the diversion are reportedly on the run.
State Commandant Ahmad assured residents that the Command remains resolute in protecting public interest and will pursue the case to ensure justice. He also emphasized that the NSCDC will not relent in the fight against vandals, economic saboteurs, and other criminal elements undermining the state.
Commandant Ahmad thanked the public for their support and called for continued cooperation by providing credible intelligence that could help security agencies track down criminals.
The incident comes as health officials intensify campaigns against malaria, with ITNs considered a frontline tool in protecting families from mosquito-borne diseases.
