…Pushes for Mass Participation in National Campus Debate Initiative
KATSINA – In commemoration of Democracy Day 2025, the Katsina State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency NOA has held a press briefing calling on citizens to deepen their commitment to national unity, good governance, and democratic values. The briefing, led by the State Director, Malam Muntari Lawal Tsagem, took place at the NOA headquarters, Federal Secretariat Complex, Katsina.
Describing June 12 as a day of reflection and renewed dedication to Nigeria’s democratic journey, the NOA praised the Federal and State Governments for their sustained efforts in executing life-enhancing projects and reforms. The Director encouraged citizens to “double their trust in the Nigerian state, love the country and support democracy as the only system that gives every citizen a voice in leadership.”
Malam Muntari urged both leaders and followers to live by values of honesty, patriotism, tolerance, and hard work, while firmly rejecting corruption, greed, fake news, and division. “We must celebrate what our leaders have achieved so far and guard public infrastructure jealously as a sign of ownership,” he said.
As insecurity and economic hardship remain critical issues, the NOA appealed to politicians to put Nigeria first, insisting that “more sacrifices are needed now than ever before” to restore peace and enhance citizens’ welfare.
In a major highlight of the briefing, the Director launched a passionate appeal for mass participation in the National Campus Debate Initiative, a flagship youth empowerment programme aimed at promoting democratic culture, patriotism, and national integration among students of tertiary institutions.
Running from May to October 2025, the debate will proceed from state to zonal and then national levels, culminating in a Grand Finale in Abuja. Katsina institutions eligible to compete include FUDMA, UMYU, NOUN, Muhammadu Buhari University of Transportation Daura, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Daura, Federal College of Education Katsina, Isa Kaita College of Education Dutsinma, and Dr. Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Studies, Daura.
“The future belongs to the youth. This debate is a golden platform for students to sharpen their intellect, boost their communication skills, and offer bold, progressive ideas for national development,” said Muntari.
NOA called on Students’ Union Governments to mobilize their best minds for the contest and urged parents to support their wards’ participation. The agency also appealed to the state government to back the initiative as part of its commitment to restoring Katsina’s place in Nigeria’s educational excellence.
“Let this Democracy Day not be just a celebration, but a new chapter of action,” Muntari concluded.
