The Katsina State Government, under the leadership of Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has established a special committee to review the peace agreements reached between armed bandit groups and local communities affected by insecurity across the state.
The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, under the supervision of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari, who chaired the inauguration ceremony and officially launched the committee’s assignment.
According to the state government, the committee will be chaired by the Katsina State Commissioner of Police and will include representatives from key security agencies and relevant government departments. Members also include the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, who will serve as secretary, as well as representatives from the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade, the 213 Forward Operation Base (FOB), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the State High Court, and other critical institutions.
The main objective of the committee is to assess the implementation of existing peace agreements between bandits and local communities, and to provide recommendations to the government on how to sustain lasting peace and stability in affected areas.
During the inauguration, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari, stated that the initiative is part of Governor Radda’s broader strategy to strengthen security and promote sustainable peace across Katsina State.
“The Katsina State Government will not relent in its efforts to achieve lasting peace across all communities. This committee is expected to submit a comprehensive report within the next two weeks, recommending practical steps for sustainable peace,” Faskari said.
The committee will begin its work immediately by visiting high-risk communities to gather firsthand information from residents and stakeholders directly affected by insecurity.
So far, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with security agencies and community leaders to ensure enduring peace and safety across Katsina State.
