Stay Focused on Facts, Not Fear — Ministry of Internal Security Warns Against Misinformation
The Katsina State Government has cautioned residents to remain calm and united in the face of persistent security challenges, urging the public to focus on verified facts rather than succumb to fear and propaganda fueled by misleading social media narratives.
In a press statement released by the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, the government expressed concern over the deliberate spread of falsehoods intended to downplay the substantial gains recorded under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda in the war against banditry.
“When Governor Radda took office in 2023, all 24 local government areas of the state were affected by banditry. Today, due to sustained efforts and improved synergy with security agencies, many areas have witnessed a drastic reduction in attacks,” the statement noted.
Several local government areas — including Jibia, Batsari, Danmusa, Katsina, Batagarawa, Charanchi, Bindawa, Ingawa, Kafur, Danja, and Kusada — are now largely stable and free from banditry-related incidents.
Other areas such as Malumfashi, Kurfi, Dutsinma, Kankia, Musawa, Bakori, Funtua, Sabuwa, and Dandume have shown marked improvement, with only isolated incidents being reported.
However, some LGAs like Faskari, Kankara, Safana, and Matazu are still experiencing attacks. The government assured residents that targeted operations and interventions are ongoing in these locations.
Even while recovering from a recent accident, Governor Radda has remained fully engaged in state security matters — receiving regular briefings from top security chiefs, including the Brigade Commander, Commissioner of Police, Director of the DSS, Air Force Commander, and other key operatives.
The government condemned attempts by certain individuals to exploit the situation for political mileage or online popularity, stressing that such actions dishonor the sacrifices of security personnel and erode public morale.
Over 100 members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, more than 30 police officers, and several soldiers have lost their lives in active duty. The state government emphasized that these fallen heroes deserve respect, not ridicule.
To support ongoing efforts, the Special Adviser on Banditry and Internal Security continues to coordinate welfare for victims, rescued persons, and the families of those who died in service. The state also continues to provide critical logistics and equipment to bolster security forces on the frontlines.
The Ministry urged residents to avoid spreading unverified reports and instead utilize dedicated emergency lines to report suspicious activity. It also appealed to religious leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens to remain prayerful and supportive of ongoing operations.
“This is not the time for division or doubt,” the statement concluded. “The road is tough, but our resolve is tougher. Together, we will reclaim every inch of our land.”
