In a decisive move to restore peace and provide relief, the Katsina State Government has inaugurated a special committee to assess the damage caused by the recent communal clash between Rijiyar Tsamiya in Sandamu and Minawa in Dutsi Local Government Areas.
The Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Barr. Abdullahi Garba Faskari, who performed the inauguration on behalf of the administration, described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s government is committed to ensuring justice, peace, and immediate support for those affected.
The committee, chaired by Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana, Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Inspectorate, has been tasked with conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the destruction, identifying the root causes of the clash, and recommending urgent assistance to victims.
“You have a critical responsibility to guide the government’s next steps,” Barr. Faskari told members of the committee. “Your comprehensive report will help us extend the necessary support to the victims and ensure lasting harmony between the two communities.”
The committee is expected to deliver its findings within two weeks. Its membership includes the chairmen of Sandamu and Dutsi LGAs, top officials from the Ministry for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, representatives of the district heads of both communities, and a representative from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Accepting the responsibility, Alhaji Safana pledged fairness and empathy, noting: “We understand the gravity of this task and the urgency required. We will carry it out with utmost diligence.”
The government assured residents of its determination to not only support victims but also prevent a recurrence of such communal unrest in the state.
