The Katsina State Government has taken a decisive step towards tackling its environmental challenges with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, a leading environmental management company.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who witnessed the ceremony on Thursday at Government House Katsina, said the agreement marks a bold move to modernize waste management, improve public health, and create green jobs for youths across the State.
The MoU, signed by Zoomlion’s Managing Director, Mrs. Habiba Abubakar, and Prof. Mohammed Al Amin, Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change, covers both solid and liquid waste projects. The initiative will introduce material recovery facilities, sanitary landfills, sewerage systems, fecal sludge treatment plants, and organized waste collection with self-tipping tricycles.
Under the arrangement, the Katsina State Government will provide regulatory backing, enabling laws, and environmental impact assessments, while Zoomlion will handle the technology, feasibility studies, capacity building, and long-term sustainability.
Governor Radda described the partnership as a “game changer” in the fight against climate change.
> “This collaboration represents a bold step towards solving waste management challenges, creating green jobs, improving public health, and ensuring a cleaner environment for generations to come,” he said.
The MoU, which will run for two years pending a final binding agreement, signals Katsina’s commitment to building a circular economy and promoting climate-smart urban development.

It should have been contracted to SEPA, KUPDA or WATSAN.
These are Government established agency that has been in the Business.
They have both the technical, logistics and human resources.
Revenues generated can easily be managed.
KTSTA was given the same mandate,

Waste Management is not Hotel management.

Then we need to do away with all existing MDAs . Stop their Budget and privatize the Sector.
Har in yaza Dole sai sunci abinci a APC. Let them operate as a privatize refuse disposable company.
We have them before, they can mobilize customers.
But for them to act like co wife to our existing structures, that will call for a review of the policies that established the MDAs.
