Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has disclosed that the Katsina State Government has already paid part of the examination fees for its indigene students that will take this year’s West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, WASSCE, together with that of the National Examination Council, NECO.
The governor stated this when he received the Head of the Nigeria National Office of West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, Mr. Amos Dangut, and his delegation, who paid him a courtesy call.
While hosting his guests, Mal. Dikko Radda, advocated for a strict punishment for students who engage in examination malpractice during WAEC exams.
He maintained that there should be consequences for the perpetration of exam malpractice.
According to Governor Radda, it is unfortunate that some parents also aid their wards in cheating during exams.
He said: “We now have students who are lazy, and care less about studying ahead of their exams.
Hence, they resort to engaging in exam malpractice, with the support of some parents who just want their children to acquire educational certificates, without sound knowledge”.
The governor while explaining how his administration is resetting Katsina’s educational sector, assured that necessary mechanisms will be put in place to ensure that cases of exam fraud in the state during the forthcoming WAEC exams are minimal.
“We are also going to organize mock exams for the students, to prepare them for the WAEC and NECO exams,” Radda said.
Speaking in an interview after meeting with Governor Dikko Radda, Mr. Dangut, said their visit was to commend the governor for the giant steps he has so far taken to advance the educational sector of Katsina.
He said: “We are here to pledge our support to Governor Radda as he remodels Katsina’s educational sector. Indeed, we appreciate the support he has been giving Katsina students who are preparing for their WAEC exam”.
