The Katsina State Government has begun recruitment examinations for new health workers across seven centres statewide, marking a major step in Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s push to revamp grassroots healthcare delivery.
Leading the inspection tour on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matters and Chairman of the Recruitment Committee, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana, said the exercise aims to ensure that all 361 wards in the state have functional Primary Health Care (PHC) centres.
Safana noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Radda’s vision to deliver quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare to residents in both rural and urban areas.
Under the new PHC structure, each ward will host a standard health facility equipped with ambulances, staff quarters, and patient wards — with 204 centres already completed.
The government had earlier approved the recruitment of 1,020 new healthcare workers, reserving 80 percent of the positions for existing casual staff.
Civil society organisations have lauded the move, describing it as a crucial step toward reducing unemployment, addressing manpower shortages, and strengthening Katsina’s healthcare system.
