Katsina Govt Deploys More Security Forces After Malumfashi Mosque Tragedy

Katsina state government

The Katsina State Government has announced urgent security reinforcements following the tragic killing of 13 worshippers during Fajr prayers in Unguwan Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area.

According to the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the attack was a reprisal by criminal elements after the community had earlier resisted bandits, killing several of them, rescuing kidnapped victims from Ruwan Sanyi village, and seizing motorcycles and weapons.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the mosque in the early hours of the morning, opening fire on residents observing prayers. The swift intervention of security forces has since restored calm in the area.

The Air Component Commander of the Forward Operating Base and the Nigerian Police have already launched clearance operations to flush out the bandits, who are said to be taking cover in farmlands during the rainy season.

Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, commended the bravery of Unguwan Mantau residents in defending their community and reassured citizens of government’s commitment to end banditry across Katsina.

“The State Government salutes the gallantry of our people and remains committed to fighting these bandits. We extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and will continue to support community-based security efforts,” he said.
