The Katsina State Government has strongly condemned the violent killings in Kokami Village, Danja Local Government Area, declaring that normalcy has been restored following swift security intervention.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the government described the incident as “deeply unfortunate and unacceptable,” stressing that it stemmed from a personal dispute—not ethnic or religious conflict.
According to the Commissioner, Nasir Mu’azu, the crisis began on April 4 after a disagreement between Ibrahim Khalil Auwal and Joe K.C. Jones over the purchase of garri and sachet water escalated into violence.
Joe reportedly stabbed Ibrahim Khalil Auwal during the altercation. The victim was rushed to hospital but later died. In a swift reprisal, angry youths allegedly attacked Joe, killed him, and set his body ablaze along a highway.
Reacting, the government warned against jungle justice, insisting that no individual has the right to take the law into their hands.
“All those involved—both in the initial attack and the reprisal—will be identified and prosecuted,” the statement read.
Security agencies have since been deployed to the area, with joint patrols ongoing to maintain law and order and prevent further escalation.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading misinformation.
He also called on community and religious leaders to support efforts aimed at sustaining peace and unity across the state.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to justice, vowing that those responsible for the tragic incident will not escape the full weight of the law.
