Katsina Govt Approves ₦19.9bn Renewable Energy Rollout to Power 11 Key Facilities, Expand Lambar Rimi Wind Farm

In a groundbreaking step towards a cleaner, more reliable energy future, the Katsina State Executive Council, led by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved ₦19.89 billion for a large-scale solar power expansion set to transform public service delivery across the state.

The initiative will deliver 20.1MWp of solar photovoltaic capacity with 10.1MWh battery storage to 11 strategic public facilities, alongside an extra 10MWp of solar to boost the Lambar Rimi Wind Farm.

Benefiting institutions include Ajiwa, Zobe, and Funtua Water Works; Umaru Musa Yar’adua University; General Amadi Rimi Orthopedic Hospital; Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic; Katsina State House of Assembly; Turai Yar’adua Maternity Hospital; State High Court; Isah Kaita College of Education; and the Booster Station—ensuring critical services in water supply, health, education, and governance enjoy uninterrupted, cost-effective power.

“This is a decisive step towards a brighter, more sustainable future for Katsina,” said Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, Special Adviser on Power and Energy. “Under Governor Radda’s visionary leadership, we are not only boosting essential services but setting the pace for environmental responsibility and economic resilience.”

The government will own the expanded Lambar Rimi renewable plant outright, operating it under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model to safeguard long-term benefits.

Installations will begin immediately in phases, prioritising essential institutions and reinforcing the state’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and fiscal prudence.
