The Katsina State Government, in partnership with the Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education (MBASE) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has embarked on a monumental mission to revitalize the education sector in the state.
This ambitious initiative involves the comprehensive renovation of 150 primary schools spanning across 34 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) within Katsina State.
Governor Malam Dikko Radda, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to education, allocated a substantial sum of four billion Naira on February 10th for the urgent renovation of these dilapidated primary schools.
These funds have been strategically directed towards schools that are most in need, particularly those serving underprivileged communities.
The primary goal of this endeavor is to elevate the standards of these educational institutions and enhance the academic achievements of the students.
The renovation projects will be spearheaded by the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) of the respective schools, employing a Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach.
The scope of work includes the construction of an additional block comprising three classrooms, administrative offices, and storage facilities.
Moreover, provisions will be made to ensure access to clean water and sanitation facilities, such as boreholes and separate toilets for female students.
Furthermore, both major and minor repairs to existing classrooms will be undertaken to ensure a conducive learning environment.
On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, a dedicated monitoring team from the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education embarked on site visits to evaluate progress at Kirkini and Kafin Soli Primary schools in Kankia, as well as Shagumba Primary School in Batagarawa LGEA.
The monitoring team included key stakeholders such as the Honorable Commissioner of MBASE, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hajia Mario Muhammed, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, and the State Project Coordinator, Hajia Binta Abdulmumin.
Additionally, the project team consisted of directors from various agencies, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), a team of engineers, and other essential personnel.
This transformative initiative also enjoys collaboration with the Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS) and the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA-AF) program.
These collaborative efforts underscore the government’s holistic approach to revamping the education sector, ensuring that every child in Katsina State has access to quality education and a conducive learning environment.
As the renovation projects progress, the Katsina State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to providing equitable and inclusive education, laying the foundation for a brighter future for generations to come.
