Katsina State is deepening international cooperation in the fight against malnutrition and food insecurity following a visit by a high-powered delegation of French parliamentarians and officials of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) led by Mr. Stéphane Doyon, Head of Operations in Paris.
The delegation began its engagement at the Turai Yar’adua Centre, where they interacted with frontline medical teams working on nutrition interventions. They later met Governor Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, along with senior state officials and development partners.
Applauding Katsina’s proactive measures, the French lawmakers commended ongoing plans for mass food distribution, the supply of farm inputs and seedlings, and peace-building initiatives that are enabling farmers to safely return to their fields.
Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s determination to confront the crisis, noting that improved security is opening more farmlands for cultivation. He announced that food distribution has been approved for 120 households in each of the state’s 361 wards, with targeted support for 35,000 children recently discharged from malnutrition treatment centres.
In a key disclosure, the governor revealed that Katsina, in collaboration with MSF, will stage a fundraising event on October 9, 2025, in Abuja to rally development partners and donors towards sustained interventions.
Both sides resolved to craft a roadmap detailing urgent actions, medium-term strategies, and long-term investment priorities ahead of the fundraiser.
The visit ended with a shared commitment that joint investment, stronger partnerships, and community-focused solutions remain central to breaking the cycle of malnutrition and ensuring lasting food security in Katsina State.
