The Wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda, has renewed her commitment to the fight against all forms of cancer in the state, pledging sustained support for patients and intensified awareness campaigns.
She gave the assurance on Tuesday during the 2026 World Cancer Day celebration held in Katsina, an event organised by her pet project, Pledging Aid Charity Foundation, at the Cancer Centre of the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina.
The well-attended programme drew government officials, health professionals, cancer survivors and other key stakeholders, as the global health community marked the annual day dedicated to raising awareness and strengthening collective action against the deadly disease.
Addressing the gathering, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda stressed that the fight against cancer requires “all hands on deck,” noting that early detection, awareness and accessible care remain critical to reducing cancer-related deaths in the state.
She highlighted the strides made by the Pledging Aid Charity Foundation in supporting cancer patients, saying the initiative was designed to ensure that patients feel valued, supported and not abandoned.
The First Lady also commended the Katsina State Government under Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for deliberate interventions aimed at easing the burden on cancer patients, particularly in improving access to quality healthcare services.
She assured that her foundation would continue to stand with cancer patients and other vulnerable groups, reiterating its readiness to expand assistance and partnerships in the health sector.
In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Musa Adamu Funtua, and the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Agency, Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya, praised the Governor’s wife for her consistent support to cancer patients. They also outlined ongoing efforts by the state government to strengthen healthcare delivery across Katsina.
Other speakers at the event included the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, Dr. Nasiru Aliyu, who was represented by Dr. Ibrahim Salisu, and the Coordinator of the Pledging Aid Charity Foundation, Aliyu Nasir Kankara.
As part of the programme, medical experts, including Dr. Gaddafi Yusuf and Dr. Mustapha Aliyu Ibrahim, delivered lectures on the symptoms, causes and preventive measures of various cancers. The event also featured a practical demonstration on breast cancer self-examination by female health personnel.
Beneficiaries of the First Lady’s cancer support scheme, alongside other stakeholders, expressed gratitude for her compassion and unwavering commitment to the less privileged.
The highlight of the celebration was the commissioning and inspection of the newly established Cancer Centre at the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina by Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda, marking another milestone in the state’s efforts to combat cancer.
