The Katsina State Government has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Egypt’s Co-Egypt medical specialists to establish a world-class hospital in the state.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda disclosed the development on Monday during a courtesy call by the visiting Co-Egypt team at Government House, Katsina.
According to the Governor, the state is already putting in place advanced medical infrastructure, including an ECHO cancer treatment facility and a fully equipped blood diagnostic laboratory at the new Imaging Centre, which is nearing completion.
“The state government will work closely with the Egyptian experts in operating the centre,” Governor Radda affirmed, adding that indigenous nuclear medicine doctors will also be engaged to handle sophisticated equipment after receiving specialized training.
He further revealed that arrangements have been made to train Katsina doctors who will, in turn, train other medical personnel on the use of advanced facilities such as a dialysis unit, alongside provision for doctors’ quarters.
Governor Radda emphasized that the partnership was driven by confidence in the Egyptians’ medical expertise and their proven track record in health innovation.
Speaking on behalf of the Co-Egypt team, Professor Ahmed Hegozi explained that their visit aimed to align with the vision of the state government.
“We will spare no effort until this project becomes a reality. Our team is committed to working with the Katsina government to achieve the desired goals,” he pledged, using the metaphor that “people plant seeds of trees that others will sit under its shade.”
Dr. Aliyu Ahmed Anche, liaison for the Egyptian delegation, highlighted that the experts were eager to jointly manage the state’s multi-billion naira imaging and cancer centre.
He praised Governor Radda’s commitment, noting that the administration’s readiness to provide the necessary support would fast-track the hospital project.
The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Musa Adamu Funtua, alongside top officials from the ministry, joined the Egyptian team during the Government House visit.
