Katsina Declares Custodial Centers “Red Zone” Amid Nationwide Protests

In a decisive response to the nationwide protests sparked by economic hardship, the Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has declared all 12 custodial centers in the state as “Red Zones.”

This declaration follows a directive from the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Halliru Nababa, dated July 23, 2024.

Controller of Corrections for Katsina State, Muhammad Abdulmumin Haruna, announced the heightened security measures, emphasizing the deployment of officers, K9 units, and arm squads to the facilities.

Intelligence operatives have been tasked with providing timely updates on any developments both within and outside the centers.

Additionally, riot and kidnapping/adoption drills are being conducted to ensure preparedness.

Haruna urged all staff to remain vigilant and security-conscious to uphold national security amid the ongoing unrest.

ASC Najibullah Idris, Public Relations Officer for the Katsina State Command, confirmed these measures in a recent statement.
