Katsina State has achieved a significant economic milestone by compiling its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for five consecutive years, covering 2019 to 2023, with support from the World Bank.

The State Statistician General, Professor Saifullahi Sani Ibrahim, announced this during a five-day capacity building workshop on GDP and CPI, which commenced on September 24 and to be concluded on September 28, 2025.

The historic achievement positions Katsina as a pioneer in comprehensive economic data compilation among Nigerian states.

Professor Ibrahim revealed that staff of Katsina State Bureau of Statistics participated fully in all processes, including gathering establishment frames, data collection, and analysis.

“With GDP numbers, the state can now develop implementable economic blueprints such as State Development Plan, Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Medium Term Sector Strategy,” he explained

The statistics chief disclosed that the GDP figures demonstrate the state’s expanding economy across agriculture, manufacturing, and social sectors, reflecting Governor Dikko Radda’s vision of positioning Katsina among Nigeria’s leading economies.

Similarly, Prof. Ibrahim disclosed that Governor Radda has approved the compilation of GDP data for 2024 and 2025, making Katsina the first Nigerian state to initiate real-time GDP updates.

Responding to this development, the World Bank has deployed a team of experts to strengthen the capacity of economists and statisticians that will compile the 2024-2025 GDP and monthly CPI computation. The World Bank further commends Governor Radda for advancing the State Statistical System and making it a first choice destination for a study tour by the other states.

Professor Ibrahim described the achievement as a crucial step toward evidence-based policy making and strategic economic planning in the state.
