Katsina–Batsari Bridge Collapses, FRSC Redirects Traffic

Katsina state government

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists to steer clear of a collapsed bridge along the Katsina–Batsari route, just a few meters past Salbak Filling Station near Shagari Low-Cost, following a heavy downpour on Saturday night, August 9, 2025.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Maxwell K. Kaltungo, who visited the site for an on-the-spot assessment Sunday morning, announced a temporary closure of the affected section and outlined alternative routes. Travelers from Katsina to Batsari are advised to use the Ring Road via Al-Qalam University, while inbound traffic from Batsari should take the Army Barracks–Jibia road.

Kaltungo urged media houses to amplify the alert, especially warning late-evening travelers and those driving in the rain when visibility is poor. He also called on the state government to install temporary barricades to enforce road closure and prevent accidents.

The FRSC has already cordoned off both ends of the bridge. “Road safety is a shared responsibility,” Kaltungo stressed, appealing for public cooperation to safeguard lives and property.
