The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council, has congratulated the government and people of Katsina on the state’s 38th anniversary, describing the milestone as both a moment of celebration and sober reflection.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Tukur Hassan Dan-Ali, the union commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for his visionary “Building Your Future Agenda,” which it said is already transforming key sectors such as security, education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, environment, and enterprise development.
“As a people, we celebrate the giant strides of the past 38 years while reflecting on the challenges ahead. We particularly commend Governor Radda for his patriotism and foresight in steering Katsina towards sustainable development,” the statement read.
To mark the anniversary, the NUJ announced a public lecture themed “Democracy and Developmental Journalism: A Case Study of Northern Nigeria”. The lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, at Al-Hayatt Regency Suites, Katsina, beginning at 10 a.m.
Governor Radda will attend as Special Guest of Honour, while the Wazirin Ilimin Kasar Hausa, Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, will chair the occasion. NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, is expected as Guest of Honour.
The keynote will be delivered by Dr. Bishir Usman Ruwangodiya, alongside a panel of seasoned discussants who will dissect the role of journalism in driving democratic values and development in Northern Nigeria.
The NUJ urged journalists, academics, public officials, business leaders, and citizens to attend, reaffirming its commitment to using the anniversary to strengthen journalism as a tool for progress.
“On this occasion, we once again wish the government and people of Katsina a happy 38th anniversary,” the statement added.
