…We Empowered 120 Women and Youths throught digital skills training in Kano–ActionAid Nigeria

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has said as part of his commitment to affairs of women, it has slated the March 8 to kickstart empowerment programme for women across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The Governor who represented by the Chief of Staff,Government House Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi explained 100 women will be empowered each from the local government areas during Recieving members of DAG and ActionAid Nigeria following their match fast to Government House on Tuesday to comamurate international women day.
Shehu Wada Sagagi added that the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf will increase the number of girl child literacy in the state from 37 per cent to over 60 per cent in his first term in office.
Alh,Abba Kabir said to show the demonstration of his administration, he has appointed 3 women as commissioner, Special Assistant’s, SSA, Senior Special Assistants, Senior Reporters, Senior Special Reporters among others.
In her remarks one of ActionAid Nigeria Women leader,Jamila Musa during a walk to the Kano State government house as part of activities to mark the day, called on the government to implement policies and programs that promote girls’ education, ensure equal employment opportunities, provide access to financial services and resources, increase women’s representation in decision-making processes.
Jamila Musa also appealing on behalf of every woman in Kano state to invest more in women’s and girl education, economic empowerment for inclusive economic growth.
She added that “this could be achieved through implementing policies and programs that promote girls’ education, ensure equal employment opportunities, provide access to financial services and resources, increase women’s representation in decision-making processes, and combat gender-based violence.
“This year’s campaign theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” calls for action to break down barriers and create environments for women socio economic development and girls education. It encourages everyone to recognize the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life
“we recognise the progress made by the state in increasing girls’ access to education, disparities still exist.”
She maintained that girls are more likely to drop out of school due to factors such as early marriage, poverty, and cultural norms. Limited access to quality education limits women’s opportunities for socio-economic advancement. Nevertheless, this is still beyond the threshold, according to UNICEF (2023) that the state recorded 37 per cent girl’s child literacy level. Girls’ child education is the only way to address myriad social, health and economic problem.
On his Part the Director of DAG Kano state Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Yahaya said for strengthening Approach against Radicalization to Violent Extremism (SARVE III),Which Organized by AcionAid Nigeria in Collaburation with DAG in Kano Founded by GCERF,
“We have handed over three vocational skills equipment worth N40,000,000 (53.333 USD) to 300 youth and Women in Kano State.
Dr Muhammad Mustapha added that the beneficiaries were trained across 3 vocational skills namely: tailoring, rice processing, Groundnut Oil processing from 12 communities in 6 local government areas which are Gwale, Nasarawa, Bichi, Gwarzo, Bebeji, and Tudun Wada.
“We empowered 120 youth through digital skills training, opening doors to entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.”
“we are thrilled to report that 9,470 direct beneficiaries have been sensitized to foster peaceful coexistence and diversity in their communities. The project has led to the establishment of 12 women safe spaces, mentoring women on leadership and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE).
Furthermore, 12 Community Action and Response Teams (CARTs) have been formed to enhance early warning capabilities, along with 6 Local Conflict Management Alliance (LOCMA) and 24 peace clubs, all of which are instrumental in fostering peace and harmony.
It is on this note, I do hope that Kano state government will be able to sustain this monumental impact for the benefit of many in the state.
