Residents of some areas in Kano State on Monday erupted in protest, burning tyres and blocking roads as they demanded that security operatives hand over two individuals alleged to be kidnappers for instant mob justice.

The unrest reportedly began after locals accused the suspects of attempting to abduct a child. Witnesses said the crowd grew rapidly, forcing security agents to intervene and prevent the mob from attacking the suspects.

According to available reports, police officers on patrol immediately rescued the alleged kidnappers from the scene and moved them to a secure facility for interrogation. However, the swift rescue triggered outrage among some residents who insisted the suspects should be handed over to them.

The angry crowd blocked parts of the road while shouting slogans and demanding “justice.” Some protesters also set tyres ablaze, causing heavy traffic obstruction before reinforcement from the police and civil defence operatives restored order.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident, but security sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing to verify the allegations against the suspects.

The police have consistently warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging the public to allow security agencies to handle criminal cases in accordance with the law.

More details are expected as the situation develops.
