In a landmark operation, the Kano State Police Command has apprehended three notorious fraudsters and confiscated a staggering N129,542,823,000:00 in fake currencies.
The suspects – Nura Ibrahim (26) of Sharada Quarters, Mohammed Muktar (35) of Hotoro Quarters, and Ahmad Abdullahi (30) from Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State – were nabbed at different times and locations, following a tip-off by a vigilant Samaritan.
Police investigations revealed that Ahmad Abdullahi, identified as the gang’s ringleader, relocated from Borno State to Hotoro Quarters in Kano to spearhead the syndicate’s operations, which had plagued Kano residents for years.
According to the Kano State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the breakthrough began on December 1, 2024, when Nura Ibrahim was arrested. His confession led to the capture of Mohammed Muktar and eventually, Ahmad Abdullahi.
Recovered counterfeit currencies included $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000 – all fake. The arrests and recovery were directed by CP Salman Dogo Garba, who commended the efforts of the Gwale Division team led by SP Abdurrahim Adamu.
The suspects, now in police custody, face charges upon the completion of investigations. This operation underscores the Kano Police Command’s commitment to combating fraud and safeguarding public trust.
