The ongoing construction work for the Kano Kaduna standard gauge rail is expected to be completed in May 2023.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi stated this while briefing journalists, after inspecting work on the project site in Kano State, today.
Mr Amaechi said the contractors handling the rail line were given specific directives on how to ensure the target date is realized.
Going by the way they are going, if we fund them, they will complete the work, but they must do what we agreed in the conversation we had with them.
The conversation is that they must break this thing into different gangs so that everybody is working at the same time”.
On the viability of the project, the Transportation Minister enumerated them to include, mass movement of goods between Lagos and Kano.
One of the most important commercial nerve centres in Nigeria is Kano.
Why this track is one of the most economically viable tracks is Kano and, Lagos, so business activities done in Kano can be conveyed to Lagos.
Mr Amaechi noted that the standard gauge rail project was been funded so far by the Federal Government.
The 203.8 km Kano Kaduna standard gauge rail line was inaugurated on the 15th of July,2021 in the Dawakin Kudu local government area of Kano State.
