The Kano State Government has cautioned political actors and individuals against making statements capable of undermining ongoing security efforts in the state and across the country.
Addressing journalists on Friday after the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said recent comments circulating in the public space could create unnecessary tension and disrupt the joint security initiatives being implemented by both the state and federal governments.
According to Waiya, maintaining peace and stability requires collective responsibility, and any utterance that incites the public or promotes hostility threatens the progress made in tackling insecurity. He added that the government will not take lightly any attempt to destabilize the state through provocative speech.
Waiya stressed that the administration remains committed to strengthening security architecture through collaboration with security agencies, local communities and traditional institutions. He urged political leaders to exercise restraint and focus on actions that promote peace rather than inflame public emotions.
The commissioner further revealed that the state government has already communicated with relevant security agencies to review the situation and take appropriate steps to prevent escalation.
The comments have sparked reactions across political circles, with some alleging that the government’s warning targets specific opposition figures — an accusation officials did not directly confirm.
As security concerns remain a key issue ahead of the upcoming political season, the Kano government says it will continue to prioritise peacebuilding and safeguard the state from any form of incitement.
