The Kano State Government has mandated the Shura Council to carefully review and advise on petitions filed against Sheikh Lawan Triumph, following allegations that he made derogatory remarks about the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The petitions, submitted by prominent religious and civil society groups, urged the government to act swiftly to safeguard the sanctity of the Prophet and maintain harmony in the state.
Among the petitioners are:
1. Safiyatul Islam Nigeria
2. Tijjaniya Youth Enlightenment Forum
3. Interfaith Parties for Peace and Development
4. Sairul Qalbi Foundation
5. Habbullah Mateen Foundation
6. Imams of Jumu’ah Mosques under the Qadiriyya movement
7. Kano Council of Sunnah Scholars
8. Multaqa Ahbab Alsufiyya
Government officials confirmed that the review will be conducted with “utmost fairness and diligence,” stressing that the Shura Council’s recommendations will guide the next line of action.
The move, observers say, reflects Kano’s long-standing commitment to preserving religious values while ensuring due process in sensitive matters.
