In a landmark decision, the Kano State House of Assembly has approved the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024, setting the stage for the creation of second-class emirates within the state.
The bill, which successfully passed its third reading on Tuesday, was introduced by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Bututu, representing the Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency.
Under this new legislation, Kano will be designated as a top-tier emirate, while Rano, Gaya, and Karaye will be recognized as second-tier emirates.
This move aims to enhance administrative efficiency and cultural heritage in the region.
