The Kaduna State High Court has granted bail to activist Mahdi Shehu, who was recently arrested over a controversial viral video alleged to be misleading. Justice Murtala J. Zubair, presiding over the case, set bail conditions at N3 million, requiring two prominent clerics as sureties.
In his ruling, Justice Zubair underscored that the decision adhered strictly to legal principles and available evidence, emphasizing the presumption of innocence at this stage of the trial.
As part of the bail conditions, Shehu must surrender his international passport, avoid traveling without court approval, and report monthly to security officials. Any breach of these terms will lead to his re-arrest and detention.
The case has drawn widespread public interest, with legal experts and activists closely monitoring developments.
