The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has cut off power to the Kaduna Government House over a staggering N2.9 billion debt.
The move follows the government’s sealing of KEDCO’s office over N600 million in unpaid taxes.
KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, revealed that the government house had not paid for seven months of electricity, despite a recent payment of N256 million for past dues.
The disconnection, which came after extensive consultations, highlights the growing tensions between state utilities and government bodies.
Other states under KEDCO’s franchise, including Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, have maintained good payment records.
The power cut emphasizes the urgent need for improved financial management to avoid disruptions in essential services.
All eyes are now on the Kaduna State Government to see how it will address the arrears and restore power.
