The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, KACRAN, has commended the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha for his commitment in promoting the sector.
In a statement signed by Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, KACRAN the National President of the association, acknowledged the significant contributions made during the recent two-day workshop organized by the Ministry of Livestock Development in partnership with the British SPRING Project.
According to KACRAN this workshop provided a platform for discussing contemporary methods and strategies aimed at enhancing livestock productivity and fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoral communities adding that, “The Minister’s dedication to these goals was evident, and we extend our gratitude for his tireless efforts respectively.”
The statement read, “As one of the pastoralist associations that participated in this landmark workshop, we were inspired by the powerful and emotive address delivered by Honourable Minister, Alhaji Idi Maiha.
His remarks resonated with all attendees, including resource persons, ministry staff, representatives from the British SPRING Project, members of the press, and other stakeholders, affirming his competence and readiness to lead.
“The minister actively engaged throughout the workshop, addressing questions and concerns, which demonstrated his commitment to collaborative dialogue. As an experienced livestock farmer with extensive knowledge of pastoral practices not only in Nigeria but across West Africa, he has rekindled the hope and confidence of pastoralists and stakeholders alike.
[17/04, 12:20] Muhammad Sani Chinade Yobe: The Minister’s strong assurances during the workshop reassured us that under his capable leadership, the livestock sector will reach new heights, positioning Nigeria as a major supplier of processed meat, dairy products, and related goods.
“A key highlight of the Minister’s address, which resonated with our objectives, was his sincere focus on achieving peace and unity between herders and farmers. He emphasized that progress is unattainable without a foundation of peace. He illustrated this point by referring to the workshop venue, underscoring that the peaceful environment was vital for meaningful discussions to take place.
“To promote cooperation and prevent destructive incidents, the Minister presented a compelling video highlighting instances where pastoralist youths were seen damaging farmers’ crops. This behavior was unequivocally condemned by the Minister and fellow pastoralist leaders.
“The Minister urged the pastoralist community to prepare for the challenges ahead in order to fulfill the President’s vision for advancing the livestock sector, ensuring food security, and contributing substantially to the nation’s GDP. He reiterated his commitment to working alongside pastoralist associations to foster peace and harmonious relations within communities.
“The Minister also announced an open-door policy to invite constructive advice and collaboration towards national development. He encouraged pastoralist leaders to embrace self-reliance rather than depending solely on government entities, institutions, and donor agencies for support. He emphasized the potential for pastoralists to establish independent financial institutions and cooperative banks.
“In a call to action, the Minister set a two-week deadline for pastoralist leaders to identify land areas suitable for grazing reserves and animal feed cultivation. He affirmed his dedication to establishing a robust framework for livestock development that can withstand the test of time while reducing Nigeria’s dependency on imported dairy products.
“The KACRAN, as a key stakeholder in the livestock sector, extends our heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Minister for his unwavering commitment to peace and the advancement of the livestock industry in Nigeria. We stand ready to offer our full support and cooperation to help realize the Ministry’s objectives. We invite other pastoralist associations to join us in this collective effort respectively.”
