In a dramatic twist of fate, one of Katsina’s most feared bandit kingpins, Kachalla Harisu, has met his end—slain alongside 10 of his loyal fighters in a bloody intra-gang shootout deep within the forests between Safana and Dutsin-Ma Local Government Areas.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the deadly clash erupted in the early hours of Tuesday, following a bitter feud over ransom proceeds and control of key territories.
“Kachalla Harisu and his men had been locked in a leadership tussle with rival bandits over recent ransom collections. The argument spiraled into gunfire. He and 10 of his foot soldiers didn’t make it out,” a source revealed.
Harisu, long hunted by security forces, had been linked to a trail of blood—mass kidnappings, cattle rustling, and brutal raids in Katsina and Zamfara. His death marks a major blow to bandit networks terrorizing the region.
Security experts see the internal strife as both a sign of growing disunity among criminal factions and a rare break for residents caught in the grip of rural terror.
