Justice Mahuta: Katsina Elders Never Rejected Tinub

Elder statesman and retired Justice Sadiq Abdullahi Mahuta (Galadiman Katsina) has dismissed claims that the Katsina State Elders Forum called for a boycott of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Addressing journalists at his residence, Justice Mahuta clarified that the forum had only raised concerns over the recent detention of Professor Usman Yusuf and never issued any political directive.

“The major issue that led to the press conference was the arrest and detention of Professor Usman Yusuf. The forum felt it was our duty to call for justice, either by arraigning him before a court or releasing him. I have learned that he has now been released,” Mahuta stated.

However, he strongly rejected reports linking the elders to any anti-Tinubu stance.

“This is not an elders’ language. It is not our position. We completely dissociate the Katsina Elders Forum from this statement,” he declared.

Justice Mahuta further disclosed that he had consulted senior forum members, including veteran labour leaders and other respected figures, with some supporting his position while others remained neutral.

His remarks come amid growing political tensions as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 elections.
