Amman, June 13, 2025 — In a decisive move reflecting mounting regional instability, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has officially closed its airspace to all incoming, outgoing, and transit flights, citing “dangerous and unpredictable developments” across the Middle East.
The closure, which took effect in the early hours of Friday, follows a wave of military escalations between Israel and Iran, sparking widespread concern about the safety of civilian aviation in the region.
In a statement issued by Jordan’s Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, authorities declared that the airspace closure was “a temporary but necessary measure to safeguard lives and national security.”
“The Kingdom cannot allow any risk to the safety of its skies or its people,” the statement read.
Flights were swiftly diverted or grounded, with major airlines scrambling to reroute their journeys around Jordanian territory. Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport saw suspended operations as tense uncertainty gripped the region.
Security analysts say Jordan’s move underscores the gravity of the unfolding crisis, with neighboring countries watching developments closely and preparing for potential fallout.
