The Jigawa State Government has launched a special programme aimed at reducing the hardship faced by elderly citizens across the state.
According to a report by rFI Hausa, the initiative is designed to provide direct financial and welfare support to senior citizens, especially those without steady income or family assistance.
During the official flag-off ceremony, the state government emphasized that the programme’s main goal is to improve the living conditions of the elderly and ensure that every citizen, regardless of age or status, enjoys a decent standard of living.
Officials added that the initiative is part of a broader poverty alleviation and social welfare plan currently being implemented across Jigawa State to promote inclusion, dignity, and support for vulnerable groups.
In recent years, the Jigawa Government has rolled out several empowerment and welfare schemes, including conditional cash transfers for low-income families, agricultural support for rural farmers, and healthcare subsidies for vulnerable citizens. The new elderly support programme is expected to complement these efforts by focusing specifically on the needs of aged residents who often face neglect and poverty.
